What are Skin Boosters?

Table of Contents

Skin boosters are injectable treatments designed to improve skin texture, elasticity, hydration, and overall aesthetic appearance. This procedure entails the injection of hyaluronic acid (HA), a soft, gel-like substance, beneath the skin. This process contributes to improved skin elasticity, firmness, and radiance, resulting in an enhanced overall glow.

While you may be acquainted with high-quality skincare products and aesthetic procedures like Botox and fillers, skin boosters offer a compelling intermediate solution for maintenance. These boosters are a sought-after cosmetic treatment designed to elevate overall skin hydration, texture, and quality.

Primarily composed of hyaluronic acid, these treatments effectively replenish moisture and enhance skin elasticity. Administered professionally either independently or in conjunction with other medical devices such as microneedling, which can contribute to a collagen boost, skin boosters are often integrated into comprehensive skin rejuvenation plans. They complement procedures like dermal fillers, botulinum toxin injections, chemical peels, or laser treatments, allowing for simultaneous addressing of multiple skin concerns and delivering more noticeable and enduring results.

While daily skincare routines are excellent for nurturing the skin at the surface level, skin boosters, being injected directly into the skin, offer targeted and profound rejuvenation. This approach tackles hydration and collagen production at a deeper level, leaving the skin feeling well-hydrated and appearing radiant.

Professional aesthetic products, including serums and treatments, can indeed enhance skin health and appearance. However, they work synergistically with skin boosters, which bring a distinctive and intensive approach to skin hydration and rejuvenation.

Skin Boosters elevate skin hydration levels and stimulate collagen production, effectively reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. This process results in firmer and more youthful-looking skin.

Furthermore, skin boosters excel in improving hydration and are versatile in treating various skin areas and types. While the face is the most common treatment area, they are also applied to the neck, chest, decollate area and hands. Notably, Skin Boosters distinguish themselves from fillers by actively promoting the improvement of collagen and elastin.

Skin Boosters provide enduring hydration to your skin on a cellular level, nourishing and replenishing it from within. Administered into the deeper layers of the skin, this hyaluronic elixir enhances elasticity, boosts hydration, and stimulates increased production of hyaluronic acid—all without the volumizing effects seen with dermal fillers.

Whether your skin appears dry, lackluster, or shows fine lines, or if your lips remain persistently chapped despite efforts with lip balm and hydration, Skin Boosters can infuse lasting moisture for months. At Aries Dental and Aesthetic Clinic, we have successfully utilized this approach to enhance the softness and suppleness of various areas, including cheeks, lips, necks, décolleté, and hands.

Elevate the appearance and texture of your skin without the risk of looking overly done.

Are you a good candidate for Skin Boosters?

Virtually anyone can derive benefits from a Skin Booster treatment, with a particular advantage for individuals dealing with large pores or dry, dehydrated skin. Those with mature or sun-damaged skin, as well as those with depressed acne scars, can also experience significant improvement.

However, it is not recommended for use on or near areas that are currently inflamed or infected. Individuals with compromised immune systems are advised to refrain from using Skin Boosters.

The efficacy of skin boosters lies in their composition, incorporating essential elements that contribute to the radiant health of your skin. The primary component, hyaluronic acid, distinguishes itself by its more fluid nature compared to traditional fillers. Skin boosters are typically non-crosslinked or minimally cross-linked, resulting in a thinner consistency that feels lighter upon injection.

These boosters leverage the potential of stabilized hyaluronic acid, precisely injected into the deeper layers of the skin. This process not only restores hydration but also triggers collagen production, leading to an enhanced skin texture and a more youthful appearance.

In addition to hyaluronic acid, skin boosters contain amino acids, peptides, growth factors, vitamins, and other nutrients—all beneficial for improving skin texture, elasticity, hydration, and overall appearance.

Different brands offer unique compositions to achieve a revitalizing effect.

Do Skin Boosters work?

The answer is, yes! They do. They are highly effective in addressing dryness, roughness, and fine lines, while also enhancing skin tone and texture. To achieve optimal results and maintain maximum hydration, it is recommended to undergo two sessions per year for maintenance.

Understanding How Skin Boosters Work

Hydration: Skin boosters work by deeply hydrating the skin, delivering a concentrated dose of hyaluronic acid. This restoration of the skin’s moisture balance leads to enhanced texture, elasticity, and a radiant complexion, resulting in a plumper and more supple appearance.

Collagen Stimulation: The injection of hyaluronic acid initiates a natural response in the skin, prompting the production of collagen and elastin. Collagen, a crucial protein providing structural support, promotes skin firmness and reduces the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles.

Skin Rejuvenation: Through the improvement of hydration levels and the synthesis of collagen, skin boosters contribute to the rejuvenation of the skin from within. They can refine skin tone, smooth roughness, minimize the appearance of pores, and foster a more youthful and refreshed aesthetic.

Overall Skin Radiance: With heightened hydration and collagen synthesis, skin boosters play a key role in achieving a brighter, more youthful, and healthier-looking complexion.

Jalupro: A Rising Star in Biorevitalization

Jalupro

Jalupro HMW and Jalupro Super Hydro have garnered increasing popularity among our patients due to their impressive biorevitalizing properties. Infused with the goodness of hyaluronic acid, amino acids, and peptides, Jalupro stands out as the ultimate skin booster for addressing anti-aging concerns, promoting skin brightening, and achieving overall skin rejuvenation. This versatile solution is effective in treating uneven skin texture on the face, addressing crepey-looking skin on the neck, décolleté, hands, thighs, and various other body areas. Noteworthy is its ability to work wonders independently and, when combined, enhance the outcomes of other aesthetic procedures.

How many sessions do I need?

The procedure is both quick and painless, with immediate visible results. The number of sessions required to achieve your desired outcome depends on your specific needs. The frequency and quantity of sessions can be personalized to address your individual skin concerns, ensuring optimal results tailored to you.

Administered by a medical professional, the skin booster injections follow the application of a numbing cream to minimize discomfort during the procedure. While you’ll notice a plumping effect almost immediately, it’s important to note that this effect differs from that of traditional fillers. Over the course of 2-4 weeks, you should observe an enhancement in your skin texture, characterized by a tighter and smoother appearance.

What Are the Side Effects of Skin Boosters?

Side effects include injection-site redness, swelling, weltlike spots, and pinpoint bruising—most of which subside within a day or two. Bear in mind, however, that since boosters require multiple needle pokes across the face, the marks they leave can be rather obvious, widespread, and hard to hide.

While boosters have a finer and more fluid consistency compared to standard fillers and are injected less deeply, it’s crucial to be aware that serious vascular complications are still possible. Therefore, it is essential to choose a provider with a comprehensive understanding of facial anatomy to minimize any potential risks.

Who Should Not Get Skin Boosters?

You would not be considered a candidate for Skin Boosters treatment if you have any of the following (Contraindications):

How should I prepare for Skin Boosters?

  1. It is best to schedule Skin Boosters treatments at least 2 weeks, ideally 4 weeks before a big event. Results from the Skin Boosters will take approximately 4 to 7 days to settle. Also, bruising and swelling may be apparent in that period.
  2. Avoid pain relievers called “NSAIDs,” such as aspirin, ibuprofen (generic, Advil, Aleve, or Motrin), Voltaren, and other blood thinning agents such as Vitamin E, Ginko Biloba, St. John’s Wort and fish oil or omega-3s to prevent bruising 7-10 days before the treatment. You must alert us of any medical conditions you may have and/or any prescribed medications you are taking before your treatment.
  3. If you are taking prescription blood thinners such as Coumadin or Plavix, you should check with the prescribing doctor to see if you can stop these medicines for 7-10 days before your appointment and at least 2 days after the procedure has been done.
  4. Discontinue Retin-A two days before and two days after treatment.
  5. If you have a current cold sore or an acne breakout on the target Skin boosters injection area, reschedule your appointment. If you have any history of Herpes Simplex (cold sores) on your face, make sure you inform the doctor that you have made your appointment with, one week before your appointment.
  6. Avoid smoking and alcoholic beverages for 24 hours before the procedure as this can increase the risk for bleeding and bruising.
  7. Avoid waxing, bleaching, tweezing, or the use of hair removal creams in the area(s) to be treated.
  8. Don’t skip breakfast. On the morning of, consume plenty of food and drink as this will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during the treatment. Make sure you eat close to your appointment.
  9. Avoid exposure to the sun as it’s difficult to administer the treatment on sunburnt skin.
  10. Please come to your appointment with minimal or no make-up on the areas that are going to be treated. If worn, please remove it before treatment.
  11. There are no restrictions on flying but we recommend our patients avoid flights for at least 72 hours, preferably two weeks after the treatment appointment.

What should I expect during Skin Boosters treatment?

During Skin Boosters therapy, your healthcare provider utilizes a fine needle to administer small quantities of the selected product (Profhilo or Jalupro) into the targeted area. Depending on the specific concern, you might receive multiple injections in different areas. Here are some key details to keep in mind about Skin Booster treatment:

  1. Skin Boosters injections are typically an outpatient procedure, allowing you to return home on the same day.

  2. The discomfort experienced during the procedure is generally mild. While the injections may cause a brief stinging sensation and some discomfort, the process is swift. In certain cases, your healthcare provider may apply a topical numbing agent to your skin before administering the injections to enhance your comfort.

What should I know about Skin Boosters aftercare?

  • Expect some redness, small pin prick marks, and minor bruising. Avoid touching the area for 6 hours after the treatment.
  • The product is injected in small ‘deposits’, you may be able to see them initially, but they settle usually within hours. It may be possible to feel the product where it has been injected under the skin. It will settle, there is no need to massage. If you notice firm swellings at the injection sites, this is normal. Do NOT massage these. Instead leave them to disperse naturally and they will get absorbed within 24-48 hours.
  • Stay Hydrated. Drinking plenty of water is particularly vital after Profhilo treatment, as these injectables work by attracting water molecules, thereby amplifying their volumizing effect. Avoid excessive salt for 24 hours as this can dehydrate.
  • Arnica pills and/ or Arnica cream can be used to decrease bruising and swelling.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise or anything that increases your heart rate for 24 to 48 hours.
  • Avoid sun exposure for at least 6 hours, but recommended to avoid 48 hours. If you must go outside, use sunscreen with SPF 50+, starting 6 hours after the treatment and reapply every 2 hours if outdoors.

Profhilo Jalupro

  • Avoid other forms of heat exposure for 48 hours, such as tanning bed, hot tubs, hot showers or baths, saunas, or cooking over a hot stove.
  • Avoid sun bathing, and extremes of heat or cold for 14 days post treatment.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol for 24 to 48 hours.
  • You can apply ice pack or an ice cube covered in a thin cloth (so it doesn’t stick to the skin and cause pain) 5-10 minutes every 2 hours. This will help ease swelling, itching, bruising, and any other pain.
  • You can use Tylenol or Panadol (paracetamol = acetaminophen) for discomfort. No NSAIDs (ibuprofen, aspirin) for 24 hours as they can increase bleeding.
  • Try your best to avoid sleeping on the injected areas. Try to sleep on your back, face up and slightly elevated. Avoid lying down for 6 hours
  • Avoid wearing makeup the day of procedure and 24 hours after the procedure. After 24 hours sunscreen and makeup can be applied, and the area can be gently washed with a gentle cleanser. Use a sensitive cleanser to avoid additional skin irritation.
  • Avoid Facial Treatments, Radiofrequency, HydraFacial, Microdermabrasion, CACI, Microneedling, and Dermaplanning treatments for up to 2 weeks to reduce the risk of complications.
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen or aspirin) or supplements (St Johns Wart, Cod Liver Oil, Vitamin A, B or E) for 2 days before and after treatment, as these can increase your risk of bruising.

When To Contact Your Doctor:

    • If redness, tenderness, itching or swelling worsens after 3 days rather than settling.
    • If you notice blanching, mottled bruising/redness (mottled appearance), or pain (beyond tenderness as you would expect with bruising or swelling).

How Long Do Skin Boosters Last

The duration of each skin booster treatment’s effectiveness can vary based on factors such as the brand used, skin quality, and whether the treatment is consistently maintained.

Generally, skin boosters typically offer results lasting up to six months, influenced by various considerations.

Does my health insurance cover Skin Boosters?

When Skin Boosters are utilized for cosmetic purposes, it is typically not covered by insurance. For coverage information, it is advisable to consult with your health insurance provider to understand the specific details regarding coverage and potential reimbursement.
